To celebrate the 50th anniversary of an iconic car the Japanese have teamed up with the Italians for the limited edition 2019 Nissan GT-R50, yours for just AED4.1 million…
Next year is the 50th anniversary of the Nissan Skyline GT-R, the first Japanese nameplate to continuously harass the European establishment without interruption. Earlier this year Nissan carried on the great Japanese tradition of teaming up with Italian design houses to celebrate the occasion with a one-off concept car by Italdesign. They said it was just a birthday present to itself, but now Nissan is letting you order a production version of the Nissan GT-R50 and all for the everyman-price of just $1.1 million, or well over AED4 million.
Nissan will ensure the car remains a collector piece by building just 50 examples with deliveries beginning next year just in time for the 50th anniversary, through to 2020. Although it’s presented in special blue paintwork in these renders the production-spec GT-R50 is very close to the concept car we saw earlier this year, with the major changes applied to the lights and the side mirrors. Naturally customers will be able to specify whatever colour combo and interior packages they want, but underneath it’s all Nismo, with a tuned powertrain that puts out 720 horsepower compared to the stock 2019 model rated at 600 horsepower.
The 3.8-litre twin-turbocharged V6 puts it down to all four wheels via a six-speed transmission, and you can expect zero to 100km/h in under three seconds.
Turin-based Itadesign – famous for the BMW M1, Bugatti EB112, Lotus Esprit, Alfasud, Fiat Panda, Lancia Delta, the original Volkswagen Golf, and countless other classics – collaborated with Nissan in turning out the design of the GT-R50, which is described by the Japanese manufacturer as a “GT-R without limits”.
