Toyota Middle East has spiced up next year’s line-up a little with the introduction of the new 2019 Toyota Land Cruiser Grand Touring edition – it cruises, it tours, it lands in the UAE right now from AED215,900
For a vehicle from the Bronze Age the Japanese definitely know a thing or two about longevity – the nation’s southernmost island of Okinawa is home to the oldest people on earth, and our Middle Eastern roads are home to an archaic off-roader that still scoffs at the mere mention of ‘unibody’…
And yet time after time Toyota finds a way to keep the formidable Land Cruiser relevant, and for next year the company is introducing the new 2019 Toyota Land Cruiser Grand Touring edition in the UAE. In short, it’s a middle-of-the-range model but crammed full of kit, which isn’t unlike what Porsche does with its GTS badge.
So you can get the new Cruiser ‘GT’ with either a 4.0-litre V6 engine or a 4.6-litre V8, but you can’t have the trim level if you want the flagship 5.7-litre V8 engine in the Land Cruiser VXR. The former V6-engined GT delivers 271 horsepower while the 4.6-litre comes rated at 304 horsepower, and the price reflects that. One costs AED215,900, and the other is AED239,900. Meanwhile the flagship VXR still sits pretty with a price tag of AED299,900.
Anyway, back to the GT edition, which includes 20-inch wheels, lots of chrome, new front and rear bumpers, smoked headlights, and a roof spoiler at the back so you can lift your downforce game. Other than that you’ll probably benefit most from the included new 10-inch infotainment screen, and the integrated roof rails for practicality’s sake.
Otherwise, can we go back to moaning about how much better things were back in the good old days?
