When it comes to the UAE the new 2019 Range Rover Evoque will cost as much as the new 250bhp Porsche Macan, but with 300 horsepower the Brit has the chops for that fight…
Jaguar Land Rover refers to the coming years as ‘Project Charge’, with a more and more electrified cars on the way by 2020, to follow the Jaguar I-Pace and other hybrid SUVs.
The next one down the list is this updated 2019 Range Rover Evoque which is introducing a three-cylinder engine to the mix plus a plug-in hybrid version. Seeing as over 770,000 Evoques have been sold since 2011, the second-generation crossover is a huge deal.
Built on a new platform the Evoque now boasts more legroom and boot capacity, with a more practical 40:20:40 split rear bench instead of the old 60:40. Overall it’s not that much bigger though, just slightly longer and taller with a 21mm longer wheelbase. Sat on 21-inch wheels in these glossy promotional images, the car seems taut and compact but you could probably ruin it if you prioritise comfort and choose smaller wheels.
The Brits will eventually offer the new Evoque with a plug-in hybrid system including a three-cylinder petrol engine, but from launch you’ll get the familiar Ingenium four-cylinder 2.0-litre offering three power tunes from 200bhp, to 250 and the flagship 300 horsepower Evoque First Edition R-Dynamic SE.
That last one gets all the kit, like matrix LEDs, panoramic roof, ambient lighting, dark aluminium trim, a range of safety features, and of course Land Rover’s Terrain Response 2 system. Everything you’d expect form the brand is there, and they’ve upped the water wading depth from 500mm to 600mm as an added perk.
Inside the completely redesigned cabin the highlight is a new twin-touchscreen display running what Land Rover claims is much faster software, and it doesn’t look too far off a big Range Rover in there now.
Prices for the 2019 Range Rover Evoque are still to be announced for our Middle East markets, but in Europe the petrol-engined variants will range roughly between $45,000 and $65,000, so expect to pay between AED165,000 and AED250,000+ in the UAE.
