Making its premiere at the Detroit motor show, this new Subaru STI S209 is the Japanese brand’s most powerful car ever and it’s limited to just 200 examples
You’ll have to bring your A-game to the Al Aweer used car market in Dubai later this year, when the grey importers get their hands on the limited edition Subaru STI S209.
With the fate of the WRX STI still unknown it’s a likely possibility that the next-generation model will take the electrified route. What this means, is that the STI S209 could be the closing-sale special when it comes to the rally-bred WRX STI as we know it.
We do feel kind of oppressed here, because all 200 units of the STI S209 will be sold exclusively in the US, meaning the grey market will be your only way to get behind the wheel. The turbocharged 2.5-litre flat-four under the bonnet is what makes this the most powerful production Subaru ever, rated at 341 horsepower.
Subaru did it the old fashioned way, increasing air and fuel flow with a new intake, and in turn a beefed-up fuel pump and injectors. A massive 101mm wide exhaust pipe isn’t shy at the back either.
This model also comes exclusively with a manual six-speed transmission and three pedals on the floor. On 19-inch BBS wheels, the car wears Dunlop tyres and sits on a stiffened up suspension. Bits of the car have additionally been reinforced to handle track abuse, and you get new Bilstein dampers plus stiffer springs.
If you’re lucky enough to have the choice, you can only pick from two colours for the Subaru STI S209: World Rally Blue Pearl and Crystal White Pearl. Every one of the 200 cars gets a flat-bottomed steering wheel, S209 serial badge on the centre console, and exclusive black/silver Recaro bucket seats.
Subaru doesn’t say how much the STI S209 will cost, but just walk right in there and yell, “Best price!”
