Surprise, surprise – as soon as Volkswagen revealed the new eighth-generation Golf, the Group has now revealed the more expensive top-spec version. Also known as the 2021 Audi A3…
You’ll have to wait a little while for the hot S3 version to surface, but for now the Germans have launched the new fourth-generation Audi A3 and it looks as you’d expect it to. On the surface it’s pretty hard to tell Audis apart from each other, and regular bystanders might not even notice this is an all-new car.
At launch the new Audi A3 will be available in five specification including Technik, Sport, S line, Edition 1 and Vorsprung, but even the lowliest models get a 10.25-inch digital driver’s cluster as well as a 10.1-inch infotainment display plus a smartphone interface.
Audi’s designers claim they’ve revolutionised the styling of this car, with a front end dominated by the company’s signature hexagonal grille and massive air intakes that do bugger all, because they’re just solid plastic. At the rear there are more useless vents, a licence plate and some badges, as well as lights. For the first time, the daytime running lights integrate matrix LEDs and you also get dynamic turn signals to impress your mates. The interior is full of black plastic and some contrasting stitching. If you pay extra for the top trims the new Audi A3 comes with a 12.3-inch display offering three different layout, and a head-up display is also available.
Packed full of tech the fourth-generation A3 additionally includes a Bang & Olufsen sound system worth 680 watts, with 15 speakers. In Europe customers can choose from two engines but the bigger 2.0-litre version is a diesel. The only petrol available at launch is a 1.5-litre four-cylinder engine turbocharged to deliver 148 horsepower. With a 48-volt electrical system that integrates a small lithium-ion battery, the A3 also benefits from some extra assistance when pulling off or at low speeds – it’s worth another 12 horsepower and 50Nm of torque.
Pricing hasn’t been announced for all markets yet, however we do know the Audi A3 is already available to order in Europe starting from the equivalent of about AED120,000 and going all the way up to AED200,000.
