Tata Nexon EV Facelift Takes On Hyundai Kona EV in Competitive Electric SUV Segment

Tata Motors recently launched the updated Nexon EV facelift, entering the highly competitive electric SUV segment. With rivals like Mahindra XUV400, MG ZS EV, and Hyundai Kona EV, Tata has re-energized the competition in this space. Despite being in the market for several years, the Hyundai Kona EV has struggled to gain a significant market share in India, while Tata Nexon EV has secured more than 80% of the electric car market.

When comparing the prices of the 2023 Tata Nexon EV facelift and the Hyundai Kona EV, the Nexon EV comes significantly cheaper. The Nexon EV facelift is available in two powertrain options and six trim options, with prices ranging from ₹14.74 lakh to ₹19.94 lakh (ex-showroom). On the other hand, the Hyundai Kona EV is priced between ₹23.84 lakh and ₹24.03 lakh (ex-showroom). Even the top-end variant of the Nexon EV is cheaper than the base variant of the Hyundai Kona EV.

In terms of specifications, the 2023 Tata Nexon EV facelift offers two powertrain variants: Mid Range and Long Range. The Mid Range variant has a 30 kWh battery pack and offers a range of up to 325 km. The Long Range variant has a larger 40.5 kWh battery pack and provides a range of 465 km on a full charge. Both variants have a significant improvement in range compared to the pre-facelift model. The Nexon EV facelift features an all-new Gen2 electric motor, delivering 127 bhp peak power and 215 Nm torque for the Mid Range variant, and 143 bhp peak power and 215 Nm torque for the Long Range variant.

The Hyundai Kona EV, on the other hand, is powered by a 39.2 kWh battery pack, offering a range of 452 km on a single charge. While the Kona EV promises a higher range than the Nexon EV Mid Range model, it falls short compared to the range offered by the Long Range variant of the Nexon EV facelift.

Overall, Tata Nexon EV facelift poses a strong challenge to the Hyundai Kona EV in terms of pricing and range. Its competitive pricing and improved range make it an attractive option for customers looking to switch to electric vehicles.
