Audi’s Q5 compact crossover has gained popularity in Thailand, especially in its plug-in hybrid variant, which offers both style and efficiency. In this review, we take a closer look at the 2023 Q5 55 TFSI e quattro S line Black Edition and how it compares to its European rivals.
Design-wise, the Q5 maintains Audi’s signature grille and elegant aesthetics. While it may not be the most eye-catching crossover, it exudes an air of sophistication that luxury buyers appreciate. The S line Black Edition stands out with sportier 20-inch rims and glossy black garnishing, enhancing its overall appeal.
Inside the cabin, the Q5 impresses with Nappa leather upholstery, sports seats with diamond-cut stitching, and high-quality materials. The intuitive controls and logical layout of driving information make it easy to navigate without distractions. The build quality is solid, and Audi’s attention to detail is evident in the fit and finish of the interior.
While the Black Edition boasts features like a Bang & Olufsen sound system and four USB ports, it surprisingly lacks a wireless charger, which seems ironic for a plug-in hybrid vehicle. The front seats, though comfortable, may leave some wondering if comfort seats would be a better fit for a crossover. However, both front seats are powered and offer lumbar adjustment for added convenience.
In terms of performance, the Q5 combines a turbocharged 2.0-liter engine with an electric motor, resulting in a combined output of 367hp and 500Nm of torque. With a 17.9kWh lithium-ion battery pack, the Q5 can run on electric mode for up to 54km, offering impressive efficiency. Charging the battery takes around two-and-a-half hours with a wallbox, and it also charges while driving, saving energy for later use.
The Q5 delivers swift acceleration, reaching 100kph from a standstill in just 5.3 seconds. The electric-hydraulic steering provides precise handling, and the brakes offer responsive stopping power. The suspension has been softened in the 2023 model, resulting in a comfortable and smooth ride, which is further enhanced by the low wind noise at high speeds.
All in all, the 2023 Q5 55 TFSI e quattro S line Black Edition showcases Audi’s commitment to providing a well-rounded luxury crossover. It offers style, efficiency, and a comfortable driving experience that appeals to discerning buyers in the market.
