BYD Celebrates Production of 500,000 Atto 3 Electric SUVs

Chinese car manufacturer BYD has achieved a significant milestone by producing 500,000 units of its Atto 3 electric SUV. This accomplishment comes just 19 months after the vehicle entered production. BYD’s achievement was shared on its social media pages, emphasizing the model’s importance. The Atto 3 has already gained popularity in Australia, where over 10,000 units have been sold, making it a key export market for the company. Furthermore, BYD plans to introduce two more electric models to the Australian market.

The first BYD Atto 3, initially named the BYD Yuan Plus, was manufactured in China in February 2022. Australia was one of the first countries to receive the electric SUV, with its official unveiling taking place in the first quarter of the same year. Deliveries began in August, and mass deliveries were initiated before the end of 2022. In Australia, the local distributor of BYD, EV Direct, collaborated with Eagers Automotive to establish a network of experience centers across the country, which has been successful thus far.

BYD’s expansion in Australia includes the launch of its new “Megastore” concept, which aims to educate consumers about EVs. The first Megastore opened in Alexandria, Sydney, showcasing a range of BYD products and highlighting the brand’s innovations in vehicle technology. Visitors had the opportunity to explore the Atto 3 as well as upcoming models such as the affordable Dolphin and the performance-focused sedan, the Seal.
