The Changing Landscape of Journalism: A Fresh Perspective

Danielle Kaye, a talented journalist with a passion for investigative reporting and social justice, has embarked on a new chapter in her career as a Kroc Fellow for the year 2022-2023. Kaye’s journey into the world of journalism began at Reuters, where she delved into the intricacies of compensation policies and union organizing within the technology and retail sectors.

Having recently graduated from UC Berkeley with a multidisciplinary background in Global Studies and French, Kaye’s academic pursuits were always intertwined with her commitment to journalism. During her time at Berkeley, she dedicated herself to reporting and producing for KPFA, a listener-funded radio station, covering crucial topics such as protests and housing issues in California. Kaye’s experience didn’t stop there; she also conducted research at UC Berkeley’s Human Rights Investigations Lab and contributed as a news reporter and editor for the university’s student-run newspaper, The Daily Californian.

Kaye’s passion for shedding light on underrepresented communities extended beyond her academic career. In 2019, she lived with a host family in Dakar, Senegal, an experience that ignited her interest in the challenges faced by Senegal’s artisanal fishing communities. For her senior thesis, Kaye delved into the various threats affecting these communities, highlighting their struggles and the need for greater awareness.
