Tata Motors surprised car enthusiasts in April 2022 with the unveiling of the Curvv electric SUV concept. Its futuristic design and sloping roofline caught the attention of many. At the 2023 Auto Expo, Tata Motors showcased a production-ready version of the Curvv, revealing that it would initially be offered with internal combustion engine (ICE) powertrains. Recently, a TOI Auto reader shared images from a production facility, confirming that the Curvv SUV is nearing the start of production.
Tata Motors has announced that the Curvv SUV will feature a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine option. This new engine will make its debut in the SUV, offering enhanced performance. Notably, the production version of the Curvv will feature traditional external rearview mirrors instead of the concept’s camera setup. There is speculation that Tata Motors may launch the production version of the Curvv under the name ‘Tata Frest’, as the company has recently filed a trademark for this name.
While the production shell of the Curvv/Frest retains much of the initial design and shape, there are some differences compared to the concept shown in January. Notably, the hidden air vent feature at the back of the sloping roofline is no longer visible, and the curved wheel arches have been replaced with a more angular design. However, it is expected that the production version will still maintain the ultra-futuristic touches seen in the concept, such as the animated LED lighting and vertically stacked LED headlamps.
Tata Motors plans to launch the Curvv/Frest SUV in early 2024. With its striking design and anticipated features, the upcoming coupe SUV has generated a significant amount of interest among car enthusiasts.
