Fastest EV Drive: Setting a New Record from Kashmir to Kanyakumari

EVO India, in partnership with Tata Nexon EV, has set a new record for the fastest drive from Kashmir to Kanyakumari in an electric vehicle (EV). The team covered a total distance of 4003 km in just 95 hours and 46 minutes, creating three India Book Records (IBR) in the process.

This non-stop journey began in Srinagar, Kashmir, on February 25, 2023, at 6:30 am and concluded in Kanyakumari, Tamil Nadu, on March 1, 2023, at 6:16 am. The route took them through various cities, including Srinagar, Jammu, Pathankot, Ludhiana, Jaipur, Vadodara, Pune, Belagavi, Tirunelveli, and many more.

The purpose of this expedition was to showcase the capabilities of the Tata Nexon EV in managing high-speed and long-distance travel. The vehicle, powered by the advanced Ziptron technology, has proven its reliability and performance by covering over 800 million km across diverse terrains in India.

During the journey, the team only stopped to charge the car. They encountered harsh weather conditions and difficult terrains but successfully overcame these challenges. This record-setting drive aimed to highlight the availability of public charging networks throughout the country.

Vivek Srivatsa, Head of Marketing, Sales, and Service Strategy at Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Ltd. (TPEM), emphasized the importance of demonstrating the capabilities of EVs in real-world conditions. He hoped that this journey would inspire existing and prospective EV owners by showcasing the benefits of the Nexon EV’s long-range and the growing charging infrastructure provided by Tata Power.

Sirish Chandran, Editor of EVO India, played a crucial role in making this record-setting drive a reality. His aim was to dispel any doubts and myths surrounding electric cars and their usability in India. Chandran had previously scaled Umling La at 19,024 feet with the Tata Nexon EV Max, setting an IBR record for the highest elevation reached by an electric car on a public road.

The journey was not without its challenges. The team faced delays due to temporary closures of the Banihal-Qazigund tunnel for maintenance and encountered traffic jams in certain areas. However, they persevered and made use of charging stations along the way to complete the drive successfully.

In conclusion, EVO India and Tata Nexon EV have set a new record for the fastest drive from Kashmir to Kanyakumari in an EV. This achievement not only highlights the capabilities of the Nexon EV but also demonstrates the growing infrastructure for EV charging in India.
