Intertek, a global Total Quality Assurance provider, has announced the grand opening of its Electrification Centre of Excellence in Plymouth, Michigan. Strategically located in the heart of the automotive industry, the facility will play a vital role in supporting manufacturers in their transition to greener modes of transport and the global move towards electric mobility.
As the demand for electric vehicles (EVs) continues to grow rapidly, it is crucial for the automotive industry to have regulatory support and effective electrification testing for evolving EV and electric vehicle supply equipment (EVSE) battery and charging technologies. Intertek’s new facility aims to address this need and deliver science-based Total Quality Assurance solutions to automotive manufacturers and their supply chains.
The Electrification Centre of Excellence is situated in Detroit, the epicenter of American automotive manufacturing. With a total area of 200,000 square feet, it is one of the largest laboratories in Intertek’s global network. The facility is equipped with advanced testing capabilities and equipment, including a 55,000 lbf shaker, which is one of the largest in North America, for testing large automotive and EV components. The facility also features a battery Cycler capability up to 1200V/600kw, an EVSE emulator for IEC 61851-24 certifications, and 90 environmental chambers of various sizes.
