What makes this incident alarming is that the rider had engaged the cruise control feature of the scooter, allowing it to maintain a constant speed without any input from the rider. During the ride, the man can be seen adjusting his helmet with both hands, but he never places his hands back on the handlebars. Instead, he keeps them on his lap.
This video highlights a concerning trend among Indian automotive buyers. While automobile companies invest significant resources in developing features that enhance driving comfort and safety, people often misuse these technologies. Ola Electric introduced the cruise control feature with the MoveOS 2 update in 2021. The Ola S1 Pro is the only electric scooter in India equipped with this feature, which is typically found in higher-priced bikes. The cruise control can be activated at speeds ranging from 20 to 80 kph in all riding modes, except for Eco. This feature enables riders to maintain a consistent speed and reduce unnecessary accelerations and decelerations, thereby improving the scooter’s range.
Unfortunately, the misuse of advanced automotive features is not limited to Ola Electric scooters. The Mahindra XUV700, equipped with the Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS), has also been subjected to misuse by drivers. Numerous videos have surfaced showing individuals activating the ADAS feature and engaging in activities such as playing cards or having meals while the car drives itself.
