Ottawa Firefighters Rescue Driver from Rolled Vehicle

Summary: Ottawa firefighters used specialized equipment to rescue a driver trapped in a vehicle that had rolled off an off-ramp on Highway 174. The driver was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

In the early hours of Sunday morning, emergency crews were called to the off-ramp at Montreal Road after receiving reports of a flipped vehicle. Upon arrival, firefighters found the driver trapped inside and unable to exit the vehicle.

To begin the rescue operation, firefighters used rescue jacks to stabilize the vehicle and prevent any further movement or collapse. Once the vehicle was secure, a waku ladder was employed to assist in extracting the driver from the wreckage.

Given the nature of the accident, there was concern that there might be other passengers in the immediate vicinity. To ensure their safety, firefighters utilized a thermal imaging camera to thoroughly check the bushes and grass surrounding the crash site. Fortunately, no additional individuals were found.

The driver, who suffered only minor injuries, was subsequently transported to the hospital for further evaluation and treatment. The quick response and skilled efforts of the Ottawa firefighters ensured a successful rescue operation.
